The Great Eye: Terms of Service

Last updated Oct 17, 2026

By using the TAOM Discord server or contacting The Great Eye, you agree to these terms and to the server rules.

About the bot

The Great Eye is the moderation and help bot of the Tales from the Age of Men (TAOM) Discord server (discord.gg/taom), run by the TAOM staff team. It moderates the server, keeps logs for the staff, answers common mod questions, and handles reports, modmail and appeals.

These terms add to Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, which always apply. How the bot handles your data is in the Privacy Policy.

The bot is private: it only works in the TAOM server and can't be added to other servers.

Using the bot

  • Reports. Report a message or member only when you believe it breaks the rules. False or spam reports can lead to moderation. Each member can send 6 reports an hour.
  • Modmail. DMs to the bot go to the staff team. Use it for moderation matters, not mod install help, which the help channels answer faster. Abusing modmail can get you blocked from it.
  • Appeals. Staff may let you appeal a ban, timeout or warning with the Appeal button in the bot's DM. If you are banned, you first join the TAOM appeals server so the bot can reach you. Each warning or timeout can be appealed once. For a ban you can have one appeal open at a time, and after a denied appeal you wait 30 days before the next one. Staff decide every appeal at their own discretion and may decline without giving a reason. Staff can stop accepting appeals from an account.
  • FAQ answers. Automatic answers are written by the staff, not generated by the bot. They may be out of date for the newest mod version; ask in the help channels if an answer doesn't fit.
  • Warning DMs. When you are warned, timed out, kicked or banned, the bot tries to DM you the reason. If your DMs are closed you won't get it, but the action still stands.

Don't try to break, overload or trick the bot, or use it to harass anyone.

Automatic moderation

Some actions happen without a moderator pressing a button. Each one is logged as a case.

  • Mount Doom. Posting anything in the Mount Doom trap channel removes you from the server at once and deletes your recent messages (a softban). The channel is a trap for spam bots and says so clearly. The bot may DM you an invite back. If the bot was offline, it checks the posts made in the last 24 hours when it comes back.
  • Warning escalation. Reaching a set number of warnings in a set time (for example 3 in 30 days) brings an automatic timeout, kick or ban. A warning removed on appeal no longer counts.
  • Raid protection. When many accounts join at once, staff may lock the server for a while, or the bot may lock it by itself.
  • Long slowmode. In channels with slowmode over 6 hours, posts sent too early are removed, and the bot may DM you when you can post again.
  • Discord AutoMod. Messages Discord's AutoMod blocks are shown to the staff in the logs.

No guarantees

The bot is a free community tool, run by volunteers and provided as it is. It may be offline, slow or wrong at times, and features may change or stop. The TAOM staff are not liable for losses from using it, as far as the law allows. Nothing here limits rights you have under the law where you live.

Losing access

Staff can stop you from using the bot's features (reports, modmail, appeals) if you misuse them, in addition to normal server moderation. Leaving the server ends your use of the bot; your data is then handled as the Privacy Policy describes.

Changes and contact

These terms may change. The current version is at taommod.com/discord-bot#terms with its date. Questions go to the staff through modmail (DM the bot) or a moderator.

Privacy Policy

The Great Eye: Privacy Policy

Last updated Oct 17, 2026

The Great Eye stores only what the TAOM staff need to moderate the TAOM Discord, and never sells or shares it.

Who we are

The Great Eye is the moderation and help bot of the Tales from the Age of Men (TAOM) Discord server (discord.gg/taom). It is run by the TAOM staff team, who are responsible for the data it handles. This policy covers the bot inside Discord, including the TAOM appeals server.

The bot is not made by Discord. Discord's own Privacy Policy covers everything Discord itself does with your data.

Privacy contact: thegreateyeprivacy@gmail.com

What the bot collects

The bot only sees what happens in the TAOM server and in direct messages sent to it. It does not read your online status, your activity or voice audio.

FeatureWhat is keptWhere
Moderation cases Your Discord ID and username, the action (warning, timeout, kick, ban), the reason, the duration, the moderator, whether the DM reached you, and whether a warning was removed on appeal Bot database
Staff notes Notes moderators write about a member Bot database
Reports The reported message's text, who reported it and why Bot database and a staff channel
Modmail Which staff thread belongs to which member. The messages themselves are copied into that private staff thread Bot database (link only) and a staff thread
Appeals Your answers on the form, the reason for the ban, timeout or warning, and the staff decision and note Bot database and a staff channel
Server logs Edited and deleted messages, uploaded file names and types, joins, leaves, nickname, display name and avatar changes, role changes, voice joins and leaves, AutoMod blocks Staff-only log channels
Deleted images and videos A temporary copy, so a quickly deleted file can still be shown in the log Bot memory only, for at most 30 minutes
Mount Doom The message that triggered the trap, kept as evidence Staff-only log channel
Long slowmode When you last posted in a channel with slowmode over 6 hours Bot database
FAQ auto-replies How often each answer was used. Your message is not stored Bot database (counts only)

Ordinary chat messages are never written to the bot's database.

When you join the TAOM appeals server, the bot checks whether you are banned from TAOM, only to DM you an Appeal button. Nothing new is stored.

What it is used for

The data is used only to keep the TAOM server safe and running:

  • enforcing the server rules, and keeping a history of earlier actions so moderators treat repeat cases fairly
  • handling reports, modmail conversations and appeals
  • spotting raids, spam and deleted rule-breaking content
  • answering common mod questions in help channels
  • counting staff activity (/modstats)

The legal basis is the TAOM community's legitimate interest in a safe, moderated server.

The data is never sold, used for advertising, used to train AI models, or used to build profiles of members beyond their moderation history. The bot makes no automatic decisions about you except the ones its rules describe: the Mount Doom trap, warning escalation rules and raid protection.

Storage, retention and access

The database sits on an encrypted disk on a server run by the TAOM staff, online around the clock. Only the TAOM staff who run the bot can reach it. Log, report, modmail and appeal channels are visible to TAOM moderators only.

DataKept for
Moderation cases and staff notes 2 years, then deleted automatically, so earlier rule breaks stay visible to moderators for that time. The case for a ban that still stands is kept until the ban is lifted
Reports, modmail records and appeals 2 years, then deleted automatically. Open modmail and appeals still waiting for a decision are kept until they are closed
Log channel entries Until staff delete them. They live on Discord, not in the bot's database
Long-slowmode post times Until slowmode is turned off in that channel
Deleted-image copies At most 30 minutes, in memory

Sharing

The data is not shared with anyone outside the TAOM staff. It passes through Discord, which delivers the bot's messages, and through GitHub only as code (no member data). Data is handed to authorities only when the law requires it.

Your rights

Under data protection law you can ask for access to the data the bot holds about you, and ask for it to be corrected, deleted or restricted. Because the data is used on the basis of legitimate interest, you can also object to that use. You can complain to a data protection authority.

Send requests to thegreateyeprivacy@gmail.com. Requests are answered within one month; this can be extended by two more months for complex or numerous requests, in which case you are told within the first month. Data may be kept where the law allows it, for example the reason for a ban that still stands. If a request is refused, you are told why.

Changes

When this policy changes, the new version is posted at taommod.com/discord-bot#privacy with a new date. The bot's Terms of Service are there too.
